In this post, I like to discuss about  my most favorite topic ‘Web Science’. There is always some technology/idea that changes our life from bottom to top. I find ‘web science’ fascinating and also like to admit that I am not an expert on this subject. A year ago, I started this blog with nothing in mind, now like to write series of posts on next generation web.

Some worlds best thinkers jointly working on to make the web as a part of everyone’s life. This is not study about algorithms, data structure etc that I studied in collage days….this is different science not a computer science!

I am sure this is going to change our social life, unlike other networks for ex: Electric power, telephone, railway, highway etc Web doesn’t have an engineered architecture. From technology point of view – its going to ‘improve’ – searching, filtering, monitoring, crawling, Integration, intelligence etc. to reach this benefits we need more structured, contextual and social web.

      Here we have lot of problem to solve – the major one is How to extract useful information from unstructured/ semi structured source? To extract from existing source  ‘content wrappers’ could be used, new/old source could be delivered with meanings to some degree at DB/Web services level, this is generally called as source modeling. Once the source is structured then integration, filtering etc can be achieved.

      Adding meaning to web data is generally called as Semantic web, ie - Semantic web = existing web + meaning + context. Semantic web is web science? No, Semantic web is part of the complete web science framework, the important factors that researched in WS are - trust, privacy and respect.

      WS should be viewed as network of people not as “Network of computers”, thus future web business pattern heavily depends how much degree companies understanding and solving trust, privacy and respect issues. Now it’s easy to differentiate from computer science!

      Computer science is a study about algorithms and data structure, Web science is about ‘unleashing’ data like water, the water will be sweet, pure etc. flow and impact on the society, frameworks/tools etc are researched, explored infinitive number of new possibilities, hence computer science is a part of web science,
